Active-duty veterans and veterans using Tuition Assistance (TA) or Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits will automatically have priority registration when benefits are processed and will receive honor roll communication the semester they plan to graduate. According to the DoD MOU, if tuition reimbursement is about to expire or has lapsed, Penn State must repay the service member's unearned tuition assistance to DoD as soon as possible before reimbursing the service member for the remainder of the tuition from their student account.

Depending on whether a class is dropped, the student may be entitled to a refund when the unearned TA is returned to DoD or a liability owed for the portion of tuition that the college has returned to DoD as unearned TA.

Begin your tuition assistance application before the start of each semester. Each service has a specific requirement based on the number of days for the semester that TA requests are required.

If this is your first time using TA, you may need to get approval from your service manager to use TA and complete training on the TA process and TA requirements.
